Join the Walk to Emmaus This Fall!

We would like to invite all Parishioners of St. Anne's to join the many before who have participated in the Walk to Emmaus in Hong Kong.

Like its predecessor, Cursillo de Christiandad ("short course in Christianity"), the Walk to Emmaus is a three-day experience, which takes a New Testament look at Christianity as a lifestyle. It is a highly structured weekend designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people, and through them: their families, congregations, and the world in which they live. Emmaus is a combined effort of laity and clergy towards the renewal of the Church.

The next Walks will take place at the Tao Fong Shan Christian Center in Shatin.

The Men's Walk #73 will take place from Thursday evening, October 26 to Sunday afternoon, October 29

The Women's Walk #74 will take place from Thursday evening, November 2 to Sunday afternoon, November 5

For more information, please contact:
Patrick Kaye at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or whatsapp 9011-5028 for the Men's Walk or

WHAT HAPPENS AT EMMAUS?
At Emmaus you will spend three busy but very enjoyable days at a retreat center. You will live and study together in singing, prayer, worship, and discussion. Discussion centers around fifteen talks given by laity and clergy. These talks present the theme of God's grace, and how that grace comes alive in the Christian community and expresses itself in the world. You'll also discover how grace is real in your life, and how you can live in the life of grace, bringing grace to others. You will have the opportunity to participate in the daily celebration of Holy Communion and to begin to understand more fully the presence of Christ in his body of believers. You will experience God's grace personally through the prayers and acts of service of a living support community.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER EMMAUS?
Your Walk lasts only 72 hours, but you are invited to build on it for the rest of your life. Those who attend a Walk to Emmaus are encouraged to do two things following their Walk:
1. Expand their own spiritual lives through study and congregational participation.
2. Become more active disciples of Christ in the world through their churches.
The focus of Emmaus is God as known in Jesus Christ, and how a relationship with Him finds expression in the local church. The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, and places of work.

AN ECUMENICAL EXPERIENCE
In Hong Kong the Walk to Emmaus community includes people from more than 160 Christian churches, of many different denominations, who come together in fellowship to deepen their relationship with Christ and with each other. There is so much more that unites us than divides.

Sanctuary Renovations

St. Anne's has formed a sanctuary renovations committee to work with architects and the English- and Chinese-speaking Parish Councils to develop plans for the renovation of the sanctuary of the church, which is now in some disrepair.

As part of this process, the committee will from time to time post updates and share the results of these planning efforts for the purpose of soliciting comments and suggestions from parishioners of St. Anne's.

Following are drawings that have been prepared by the architectural firm of Oval Partnership that describe a proposed renovation.

Please share your comments and suggestions with us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Farewell To Our Pastor, Fr. John McAuley

Fr. John McAuley

The following remarks were prepared by David Lamb, Chairman of the English Speaking Parish Council of St. Anne's on the occasion of the departure of our Pastor, Fr. John McAuley, M.M.

Fr John arrived at St Anne's a little more than four years ago. His first weekend, or perhaps day, at St Anne's was on Service Sunday, when without much warning he was quickly thrust into the Parish ministries and operations. He handled that cooly with his able manner with which we have now become accustomed. Since then, it is safe to say that Fr John has been involved in every aspect of our Parish. He has shown himself to be truly a "hands-on" individual who gets things done!

Fr John arrived here amidst change. Fr Ed served as our Pastor for a short time after the long tenure of Fr Wurth. At the time, the Parish was looking for a bit of stablity and Fr John stepped up to that role and became the steady and trusted pair of hands that guided the tilller of our Parish. Fr John's calm, capable and confident demeanour was just what the Parish needed. Fr John has clearly been the glue or bond that has held St Anne's together.

In summary, Fr. John has been an inspirational Pastor whose diligence, spirituality and leadership have greatly benefited the St. Anne's community. He has been instrumental in ensuring that the Parish receives maintenance and care both spiritually and tangibly!

We will miss Fr. John but we will keep him in our hearts and prayers and know he will do the same for St. Anne's.

The days are quickly passing and before long Fr. John will be saying so long to St. Anne's and moving on to other spiritual missions. Before he goes, we want to join together as a Parish community and wish him so long, good luck, and Godspeed.

The Parish is planning a send-off celebration on Sunday, Aug 27th at 12:15 pm in the St. Anne's courtyard and hope all can participate. The celebration is planned as a potluck, so please spread the word and bring a dish for all to enjoy.
