Introduction to Roman Catholic Ethics

Introduction to Roman Catholic Ethics
Most of us are lucky to live in a time of peace, with a stable government, but the world is a volatile place. Watching the News for 5 minutes reminds us that conflict is never far away.
  • What did Christ say about how we should manage conflict?
  • and how can we apply his teaching to the world we live in?
ACTS Hong Kong is a new and innovative charity for young Catholics and all who seek God, in partnership with Ampleforth College in the UK. It is a learning centre, which will teach the Christian Theology course of Ampleforth College here in Hong Kong soon.

The course is being offered for teenagers and adults; and next month you will have an opportunity to experience a class, so that you can see if you would like to join for the full course.

You will be introduced to the Church’s teaching on whether a war can ever be justifiable, and why. You will have an opportunity to listen to debates around the subject, and a time to reflect in prayer.

The taster class is offered free, and places will be allocated on on a first-come first-served basis. You must register on line. The classes are:
  • Friday 6 Nov, for 14-18 year olds
  • Sat 7 Nov, for adults.
Please download a leaflet or look at the ACTS Hong Kong website www.acts.hk
You can sign up on line to receive information about future events by email or on Facebook.

The 51st International Eucharistic Congress

The 51st International Eucharistic Congress
The 51st International Eucharistic Congress will be held next January in the Philippines. From Hong Kong, Bishop Stephen Lee, together with the TOUCH Community, will be organizing a delegation to attend, and they are now inviting all to join.

The Eucharistic Congress is an international gathering of people aimed at promoting an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Catholic Church. The Roman Ritual De Sacra Communione et de Cultu Mysterii Eucharistici extra Missam defines the Congress as “a pause for commitment and prayer to which a particular Church invites the universal Church”. During this time “the celebration of the Eucharist becomes the center and vortex of all forms of piety, of theological and pastoral reflections, of social commitment”.

There will be a talk and promotion briefing by Bishop Lee this coming Friday, October 16th, from 7:30-9:30pm, at the Diocesan Centre 9/F, Caine Road, Central. All are welcome.

Please also visit the IEC Website for additional information.

Marriage Celebration Mass

Marriage Celebration Mass

Congratulations to the 13 couples who participated in last Sunday’s “Marriage Celebration Mass" and to the many friends and family who came to witness and give blessing to the couples in their Renewal of Vows and Candle Lighting Ceremony. It was a very memorable evening thanks to our pastor Fr. John who led the couples in a prayerful renewal of love and promise.

The joyful atmosphere of the Mass overflowed into the parish hall as everyone gathered for a delicious potluck dinner. Blessings continued as we listened to The Covenant Hymn sung by Pat and David, Gregorian Chant by the men’s group and lots of laughter sharing wedding memories from Gigi.

Thank you to Hubie for his piano accompaniment. . . Ying Ying for the wonderful display of old photos . . . Angel for the incredible flowers . . . Markus for capturing the memories in photo . . . Christine, Mae and Estela, who helped with set up and food . . . and to all those behind the scenes who organized and prepared for this special event. It would be a blessing to celebrate with more couples in the future!

From Fr. John

As a priest, I have been in accompaniment of a good number of persons and families who have suffered the loss of a loved one.  I have also witnessed their suffering exacerbated and prolonged when that loved one died without clear instructions for critical arrangements following their death.

Making a will is one last loving act we can perform on behalf of those who have been most intimate and important in our lives.  As many of us return to our home countries this summer, please consider making a will while home if you have not done so already, and updating your will if one has already been made.

May you have an enjoyable summer!
